How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

It wasn’t until a few years ago that I learned it was actually harmful to your hair to wash it out everyday. I was always told that dirty hair was gross and did not reflect well. I was always mentally telling myself that I needed to have a good image and have good hair but I was doing it all wrong!

Thank heavens for this little site called Pinterest that has taught me a lot more about life than life itself. I realized that my hair was becoming oily very quickly because I was stripping my hair from all it’s natural oils. As I was doing my research, I found a few posts of items you could use that were already in your home. BABY POWEDER. I don’t know if maybe put too much or if didn’t but enough, but i shortly realized that it kept leaving my hair white and cakey….So I went back to Pinterest to find other ways to keep my hair looking clean. That is when the word “DRY SHAMPOO” came into my vocabulary library!!!!

Dry Shampoo is just that, dry shampoo. It is a spray that is applied to the roots of your hair and absorbs all the excess oils and should leave your hair looking clean. When I learned about this wonderful creation, I drove to Walmart and found me some dry shampoo. Now I don’t know if this has anything to do with the type of hair I have, IDK, so I know that it can be different for everyone!

TRESemme’ Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo

The first dry shampoo I used was from TRESemme’. I thought I had just landed into a gold mine and was living the life as a dry shampoo user! I used this product for about 2 years but was realizing that I was not able to use it from than one day because it would start too look white. Meaning, I had to wash my hair out every other day. Which at the time I thought that was still pretty good compared to washing it out everyday. Then, one day I was in a hurry and shopping at Ulta when I realized I needed to get some more dry shampoo but I was not able to find the one I usually used. So I decided to just by a small travel sized bottle of “Not Your Mother’s – Beach Babe Texturizing Dry Shampoo”.

Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo

When I say game changer, I mean it! It smells just like coconut and it does not leave any white residue or cakey feeling. ANDDDUUHHH!!!! I can use it multiple times without looking like a cow licked my head! I will be honest, getting your hair to use to a product you just started takes time. I had to train my hair to slow down it’s oil production and maintain it. To do this, I went several days without washing my hair and only applying dry shampoo. My hair still looked very oily but slowly with time it knew just how much oil to produce.

I would suggest doing this over the weekend where you know you can avoid any sort of contact with humans outside of your home in case your hair is stubborn and still looks a little oily. As of right now, I am able to go 2-3 days without washing my hair. Pretty nice! I have noticed that my hair has gotten a little bit thicker and grows out a lot faster as well.

This is my tip of the day! If oily hair is something you suffer from, just know you are not alone! Try these out and let me know what you think!! This post does include affiliation links.
